Whither the Forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus.
Hebrews 6:20

We must look at yet another aspect of our blessed Lord, Who has entered into the courts of bliss. He has entered there as the Forerunner of His children, as the apostle says: “Whither the Forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an High Priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec” (Heb. 6:20). How blessedly the Lord comforted His sorrowing disciples when He said to them, “In My Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). He has gone there to take possession beforehand of His and their eternal home, for He has ascended to His Father and their Father, to His God and their God (John 20:17). He has, as it were, filled heaven with new beauty, new happiness and new glory.

His radiant Godhead, shining through His spotless and glorified humanity, lights up heaven with a special glory. For He has fought the fight and conquered. He has fulfilled all the types and figures of the Old Testament and carried out all the purposes of the everlasting covenant. He has glorified God by submitting Himself in the highest obedience to His will. And having finished the work which the Father gave Him to do, He has returned in triumph to the courts of bliss, to receive the reward of His humiliation, sufferings and death.

In Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. His glorious Person as Immanuel has become the object of heavenly praise and admiration. The elect angels, whom He has confirmed in their state, worship Him as God and Man, and the spirits of just men made perfect adore Him together with the angelic hosts.

Reading: Hebrews 6:9-21

To the reader…

Sometimes you feel a stranger here below, weary of the conflict and longing for rest. Then look up, to where the Forerunner has entered for you. He did not go away to leave His children behind, but to prepare their place. As He comforted His sorrowing disciples with the many mansions in His Father’s house, so He speaks also to your troubled heart.

He has fought the fight and conquered; the work the Father gave Him to do is finished. What you lack in yourself is perfectly present in Him, for in Him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Where He is, there is the eternal home of all His own. So let your hope not rest on your own frame of mind, but on Him, Who is in heaven for you as a High Priest for ever.
