Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to Him shall men come.
Isaiah 45:24

Perhaps there are some among you who cannot believe that they are justified in the Lord. They do not know the confidence of faith that their sins are pardoned and that by faith they stand complete in Christ; nor can they glory in Him. There may be a poor soul who has not seen or enjoyed those refreshing messages from Christ which bring the soul to glory in His Name. Have we not, then, in this one mark a scriptural evidence: that such souls come to Him?

Does not the Lord say that no man comes to Him except he be drawn by the Father? This is the work of the Spirit in the conscience of a sinner. No one has ever come or ever will come unless he is drawn by God and made willing in the day of His power. And does not the Lord Jesus Christ say, “Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37)? Does He not say, “Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28)?

How encouraging these promises and invitations are to all sin-burdened creatures! They find that they are encouraged, invited and sometimes enabled to come to Him, to lay themselves at His feet, to wrestle with Him, to entreat His Majesty and to pour out their hearts before Him. With tears, sighs, vehement groans and heart-rending sobs they tell Him that nothing but His love can justify them, and nothing but His blood can purge their conscience. His love brings heaven into their souls.

Reading: Luke 6:39-49

To the reader…

How heavy it is when you cannot yet believe that your sins are pardoned! Can you not glory in Christ, and do you therefore think that you stand outside? Then look at this one mark: do you come to Him? No one comes to Him except he be drawn by the Father. Your coming, however weak and trembling, is the work of the Spirit in your conscience.

And He Who draws you says Himself, “Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.” Keep coming, then: lay yourself at His feet, wrestle and entreat, and pour out your heart before Him, even if it is with tears and sobs. Tell Him that nothing but His love can justify you and nothing but His blood can purge your conscience. He Who teaches you to come like this will not turn you away.
